
APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A 28-year-old man was arrested Friday afternoon after he was caught stealing from a vehicle parked at Our Lady of the Desert Catholic Church in Apple Valley.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:50 p.m. on September 5, 2025, in the 18300 block of Corwin Road.
According to a witness, the suspect, identified as William Malloy was found inside the back seat of a church maintenance worker’s vehicle with the victim’s wallet in his possession.
The maintenance worker, who had been working nearby, witnessed the suspect approaching his vehicle and intervened.
Malloy fled on foot, and the worker gave chase with his vehicle and ultimately catching up to him in the middle of Highway 18 near the Circle K gas station.
Deputies arrived moments later and took Malloy into custody.
During the arrest, deputies discovered Malloy was also in possession of brass knuckles. He was booked on charges of petty theft and possession of a prohibited weapon.
An elderly couple who had been at the church also reported an unsettling encounter with Malloy. According to the couple, Malloy approached their vehicle in an aggressive manner and demanded money. Fearing for their safety, they left the area.
Authorities have not disclosed whether additional charges will be filed in connection with that encounter.
