One Person Killed in Crash at Waalew and Corwin Roads in Apple Valley
APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The Apple Valley Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred Monday afternoon at the intersection of Waalew Road and Corwin Road.
The crash was reported at approximately 4:36 p.m. on January 12, 2026, and involved a lime green Honda Civic and a gray Chevrolet pickup truck. Both vehicles came to rest on the north side of Waalew Road.
Firefighters with the Apple Valley Fire Protection District responded and located three patients at the scene. Two individuals sustained delayed injuries, while one person, trapped inside the Honda, was in critical condition and required extensive extrication.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jenny L. Smith confirmed that one of the individuals involved did not survive. Smith also stated that “alcohol and drugs did NOT appear to be a factor” in the crash.
Residents in the area commented on a VVNG video of the accident posted on Facebook, noting that driving westbound on Waalew Road during the late afternoon hours can be hazardous due to sun glare, making visibility extremely difficult when the sun is setting.
Authorities closed Waalew Road in both directions to conduct an investigation. The incident remains under investigation, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
