Man Arrested for DUI and Murder in Fatal Crash on Highway 138 and Mountain Road in Pinon Hills

PINON HILLS, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A 26-year-old Fontana man was arrested for DUI and murder following a three-vehicle crash that killed a woman Friday night on State Route 138 and Mountain Road in Pinon Hills.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 8:19 p.m. on January 23, 2026, in an unincorporated area of San Bernardino County. Officers from the California Highway Patrol Victorville Area, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, and County Fire responded to the scene.

According to a written statement from CHP, the preliminary investigation revealed a Hispanic male adult driving a silver Toyota Camry eastbound on SR-138 veered into the westbound left turn lane at Mountain Road and collided head-on with a white Kia Forte, driven by a white female adult.

The impact pushed the Kia into the westbound lane of SR-138, where it was struck again by a black Lexus RX350 driven by a Black female adult.

Emergency personnel arrived and located the female driver of the Kia deceased at the scene. The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office later identified her as 65-year-old Karla D. Jett, a resident of Pinon Hills.

The driver of the Lexus and her passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

According to CHP, alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The driver of the Toyota was identified through public booking records as Francisco Jeremias Massac. He was arrested at the scene by CHP officers and later booked into the High Desert Detention Center. He is facing the following charges:

  • PC187(A) – Murder
  • VC23153(A) – DUI Alcohol: Causing Bodily Injury
  • VC23153(B) – DUI .08 Alcohol: Bodily Injury
  • VC14601.5(A) – Driving on a Suspended License for DUI Refusal
  • VC14601.2(A) – Driving on a Suspended License Due to DUI (Misdemeanor)

Massac is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear at Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court on February 2, 2026, in Department 19.
