Devore Train Cargo Theft Investigation Leads To Two Arrests; Fleeing Suspect Hit On Freeway
DEVORE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Two men were arrested and a third suspect was hospitalized after San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies assisted BNSF Railroad Police in a cargo theft investigation in Devore late Tuesday night.
The incident happened on May 5, 2026, at about 11:04 p.m., near Glen Helen Parkway and Cajon Boulevard, an area authorities described as a high-crime location for train cargo theft.
According to a written statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, deputies from Central Station responded to assist BNSF Railroad Police after reports of approximately 15 people riding on a train.
When deputies arrived, they observed a vehicle driving past at a high rate of speed and attempted a traffic stop. According to the sheriff’s department, the driver failed to yield before eventually pulling over.
About 10 people reportedly fled from the vehicle on foot.
Fernando Barrza, 19, a transient from San Bernardino, was detained near the vehicle without incident. Deputies then pursued Rodrigo Luna Arredondo, 32, also a transient from San Bernardino, and took him into custody after a foot pursuit.
A third unidentified Hispanic male adult was struck by a vehicle while running across the Interstate 215 freeway. Medical personnel transported him to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
Authorities said stolen cargo items taken from the train were found inside the vehicle. The Sheriff’s Department Rural Crimes Task Force responded to the scene and handled that portion of the investigation.
Barrza was booked at the Central Detention Center on charges of possession of stolen property and conspiracy to commit a crime. Luna Arredondo was booked at the West Valley Detention Center on the same charges.
