HELENDALE:(VVNG.com)- An Extreme Cowboy Race, Ranch Sorting, trick horse demonstrations and impromptu gunfight performances are among the western-themed events set for the annual Mojave Trail Days celebration Saturday and Sunday October 4th & 5th at the Helendale Community Park 15425 Wild Rd. in Helendale.
Gates open at 10:00 a.m., and the event will be chock full of live Country music with performances by Country Nation, Charlie Ray and Linda Washington, Duke Michaels, Terry Brown, the Working Poets as well as Tessie and the Calico Cats.
Saturday local four-time world champion mounted shooter and horse trainer, Kim Harmon will host an Extreme Cowboy Race. Riders will compete in an obstacle course that includes a cowboy curtain, cowboy carwash, water obstacle, poles, a tire pull, mailbox challenge, and more! Sunday there will be a Ranch Sorting competition. Both events are open to the public and prizes will be awarded. For more information, please contact the Helendale CSD at (760) 951-0006. There will be tons of activities for the whole family. There will be western reenactments, trick rope performances by former Cirque du Soleil performer Will Roberts, Stagecoach rides on Saturday, Blacksmith Demos, gold panning, a free kid’s area, vendors, a beer garden, and so much more! The Rusty Relics Antique Engine Club will be back this year with their display of antique engines and tractors.
For an extra fee, adventurers can saddle up and ride in the second annual Mojave River Cattle Drive put on by the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Posse. For more information about the Cattle Drive contact Glenn Carr at 760-559-1984.
Saturday kicks off with the Hesperia Wranglers and Rodeo Court, and the opening ceremony Sunday will feature the Fort Irwin Color Guard.
There will be a benefit dinner for the Happy Trails Children’s Foundation, which operates the Cooper Home for at-risk boys in Apple Valley on Saturday October 4th. Enjoy a great Chuck Wagon dinner, a great country music concert from the band Cowbop, dancing and a live auction.
