California Highway Patrol

HESPERIA, Calif. ( — A rollover traffic collision on the 15 freeway claimed the life of a young boy and injured several others.

It happened at about 12:19 am, on May 15, 2018, when Officers with the California Highway Patrol responded to a single vehicle crash on the northbound 15, south of US Highway 395.

According to CHP, a 30-year-old Apple Valley woman was driving and four juvenile passengers were traveling in a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer at an ‘elevated speed’.

“For reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the vehicle overturning multiple times. One of the four juvenile passengers was ejected during the rollover, and sustained fatal injuries,” CHP officials said.

The driver, along with the other three passengers received minor injuries, and were transported to Desert Valley Hospital for treatment.

Victor Valley News member Vicente Spartan Gonzalez was one of the first to arrive on scene after the crash and shared the following post:

To the family that lost their loved one today. I’m very sorry for your loss. A few others and myself helped the best way we could. It’s weighing heavy on me that I couldn’t have done more. I wish i could have. Carrying that young boy away from the vehicle is all I waa able to do but I couldn’t keep him from you. It’s difficult to write this and to once again experience such a tragedy. To the young lady I carried out of the vehicle I’m sorry for your loss and the pain you’re going through. We tried to help as best as we could. I’m sure we all wish we could’ve done more.

It hurts me just writing this. Being a father to a young child of 3. It hurts. I wish you all comfort and strength.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this collision.

This investigation will be handled to its conclusion by the Victorville Area CHP. Anyone who witnessed or has information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact the Victorville Area CHP office at (760) 241-1186.
