With the realization that each individual has a potential for meaningful living throughout his/her life, and with the belief in human dignity, the Sheriff’s Department reaches out to locate the “isolated” in our community.
The Y.A.N.A. program is designed to provide a measure of security and well being for our seniors, handicapped or homebound individuals with regular telephonic contact between themselves and members of the Sheriff’s Department. Not only are we checking on them for their safety, but we are also extending to them a hand of companionship.
The process begins with a resident notifying the Sheriff’s Department that they would like to be put on the list to receive a phone call. Sheriff’s Citizen On Patrol (COP) volunteers will call everyone on their list throughout the week (Monday-Friday) or on the days set up with the participant. If the volunteer is unable to make contact they will telephone the emergency contact listed by the client and ask them to contact the client. If the person listed as the emergency contact cannot be contacted, the COP will notify Sheriff’s dispatch and have a patrol unit sent to the location for a well check of the client.
