Wrong-Way Driver Trapped After Head-On Crash Shuts Down Northbound I-15 In Victorville

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Two people were injured in a wrong-way head-on crash early Sunday morning that temporarily shut down the northbound Interstate 15 freeway in Victorville.
The collision was reported at about 6 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026, on the northbound I-15 freeway just south of Palmdale Road.
Firefighters with the Victorville Fire Department, deputies with the Victorville Police Department, and officers from the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
Authorities found a silver 2025 Nissan Versa displaying Utah license plates and a red 2023 VinFast, both with major front-end damage.

According to CHP officers at the scene, the driver of the Nissan was traveling the wrong way on the northbound Interstate 15 after entering the freeway from the Palmdale Road on-ramp in the opposing direction.
The driver of the Nissan became trapped inside the vehicle following the impact. Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools, commonly known as the Jaws of Life, to extricate the driver from the wreckage.

Both drivers were transported by ground ambulance to St. Mary’s Medical Center for treatment. An update on their conditions was not available at the time of this article.
The crash prompted a full closure of the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 while emergency crews treated the injured and investigators processed the scene. At 7:06 a.m., at least one northbound lane reopened, allowing traffic to begin flowing again as the investigation continued.
The California Highway Patrol’s Victorville Area office is handling the investigation into the collision.
