Woman Killed in Head-on Crash With Alleged DUI Driver Identified

HESPERIA:(VVNG.com)- The identity of a woman killed in a head-on traffic collision by a drunk driver has been released.

The head-on collision with major damage was reported at 4:29 A.M., on Thursday, July 30, 2015 on Amargosa Road near Key Point Drive in Hesperia.

According to the San Bernardino Coroner’s Department, Andrea Anderson, a 27-year-old resident of Oak Hills, was the driver of a red 2015 Kia Forte that had been traveling northbound on Amargosa Road when she was struck head-on by a white 2008 GMC pickup truck that had been traveling southbound on Amargosa Road.

Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The unidentified male driver of the pickup truck was trapped and required extrication from the vehicle. He was airlifted to Loma Linda Medical Center with unknown injuries.

A witness who rushed over to the truck, stated the male driver was drunk and was “100% out of it” and he could smell alcohol everywhere.

One of the first to arrive on scene was a Victor Valley Transit Authority (VVTA) bus driver. According to a passenger on the bus, the bus driver checked Anderson’s pulse but was unsuccessful in finding one.

In addition to witness reports of a strong smell of alcohol from the driver of the truck, a Heineken beer bottle was also visible amongst the crash debris. Amargosa Road was closed in both directions between Key Point Drive to Avenal Street for approximately 10 hours.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff Department MAIT Team is investigating the traffic collision.
