Woman hit by truck on Main Street in Hesperia dies at hospital

HESPERIA, Calif. ( — An adult female struck by a pickup truck Wednesday night in Hesperia died at a hospital, officials said.

The fatal vehicle versus pedestrian crash happened at about 7:40 pm, just west of the intersection of Main Street and Third Avenue.

According to a sheriff’s news release, the woman was crossing Main Street outside the marked crosswalk when she was struck by a Ford F150 pick-up truck, traveling east on Main Street.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they located the woman down in the roadway suffering from major injuries. She was transported via ground ambulance to Desert Valle Hospital, where despite efforts by doctors, she was pronounced deceased at 8:19 pm.

The adult male driver of the pickup truck immediately stopped and remained on scene during the investigation.

Victor Valley News Group Brittanie Anne Taylor said she and her husband were the first on scene. According to Taylor, she believes the woman was a transient about 40-45 years of age and was trying to get to the liquor store as she had money in her hand.

Taylor said the driver of the vehicle was very shaken up and upset. “I held him in my arms and comforted a human being who needed it,” she said in a comment.

The female victim’s identity is pending confirmation from the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.

Main Street was closed in both directions from Third Avenue to Fifth Avenue until about 9:30 PM while the Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) processed the scene and collected evidence.

Officials said at this time, alcohol and speed do not appear to be a factor in the collision and the driver involved was released from the scene.

The collision remains under investigation and any witnesses are asked to contact Deputy Eric Getts or Sergeant Doug Hubbard from the Hesperia Station.
