Woman Found Dead After House Fire In Apple Valley; Husband Hospitalized After Being Stabbed

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A woman was found dead following a stabbing, barricade, and house fire in Apple Valley.

The incident occurred on April 24, 2026, at about 8:49 a.m. in the 15900 block of Washoan Road.

According to the sheriff’s department, deputies responded to the residence for an unknown problem and located a 59-year-old male victim at a neighboring property suffering from severe injuries. Investigators later determined the victim had been stabbed inside the home he shared with his wife.

As deputies approached the residence, they observed smoke coming from inside and attempted to enter to rescue anyone inside, but the home was barricaded.

A family member was able to safely exit the residence before shots were heard, according to the statement.

The Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division (SED) responded and attempted to make contact with the suspect, but were unsuccessful.

Within minutes, the home became fully engulfed in flames, prompting evacuations of nearby residences. Firefighters with the Apple Valley Fire District responded and extinguished the blaze.

After the fire was knocked down, SED personnel entered the home and located a deceased woman inside.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Detail assumed the investigation and determined the victim and suspect were involved in a physical altercation when the stabbing occurred. Investigators also determined the suspect set the home on fire after the fight.

The male victim was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

Authorities said positive identification of the decedent is pending, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death.

Authorities have not released additional details about the events leading up to the incident.

A person familiar with the family, who asked not to be identified, told VVNG the woman died in the fire and that the male victim is recovering from multiple stab wounds but is not in critical condition. The individual also stated several dogs were impacted by the incident, with some not surviving and others recovered or taken to a shelter. Those details have not been confirmed by authorities.

The source further said the couple’s child is currently with family members.
