Woman airlifted from hit-and-run crash on National Trails Highway Wednesday night

HELENDALE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A woman was airlifted following a hit-and-run crash on National Trails Highway Wednesday night.
It happened at about 8:22 pm and involved a dark blue Hyundai and a silver 2002 Mitsubishi Montero on National trails Highway near Darghty Road, south of Vista Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol incident logs, the Hyundai was struck by the SUV, causing the Hyundai to go into an embankment and leaving the driver trapped.
San Bernardino County Firefighters responded to the incident and extricated the driver from the vehicle. Reach Helicopter H325 was requested to land at the scene and airlift the patient to a trauma center.
A CHP aviation helicopter responded and assisted ground officers with searching the area for at least one occupant from the Montero who fled the scene.
Traffic on National Trails Highway was shutdown until about 9:00 pm.
The California Highway Patrol Victorville Station is handling the investigation.
