PHELAN, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A woman was airlifted Friday afternoon after the vehicle she was traveling in went over a cliff along Lone Pine Canyon Road.
The crash was reported at approximately 4:21 p.m. on July 10, 2026, along Lone Pine Canyon Road near Sharpless Ranch Road (3N29) in Phelan, near the Lytle Creek area.
According to California Highway Patrol incident logs, a caller reported that a vehicle had gone off a cliff. The reporting party initially searched for the vehicle and driver before locating tire tracks leading off the roadway.
An iPhone Crash Detection alert also provided a location near the incident, prompting notification to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District was dispatched to the scene, and an air rescue helicopter responded to help locate the vehicle.
According to CHP logs, the helicopter located the vehicle approximately 100 feet down an embankment.
At approximately 4:45 p.m., firefighters extricated the female occupant from the wreckage. Due to the nature of her injuries, firefighters requested a medical helicopter.
Reach Air Medical Services’ Reach 13 helicopter responded and landed at the Mormon Rocks Fire Station along Highway 138, where the patient was transferred before being airlifted to a trauma center.
At approximately 5:44 p.m., CHP logs indicated both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Lone Pine Canyon Road were closed to traffic as emergency personnel remained at the scene. It was not immediately known when the roadway would reopen.
A tow truck equipped with a 100-foot cable was requested to assist with recovering the vehicle.
The extent of the woman’s injuries has not been released, and the California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
