Woman, 48, shot in Phelan dies from injuries, suspect arrested

PHELAN, Calif. (VVNG.com) With the help of K9 Ellie, deputies were able to track down a suspect accused of fatally shooting 48-year-old Laura Morris, a resident of San Bernardino, Wednesday afternoon.

On August 9, 2017, at 4:47 p.m. deputies responded to the 8700 block of Olivera Street after receiving several 911 calls reporting a shooting.

Deputies arrived and found Morris suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies began CPR and medical aid and transported Morris to Victor Valley Global Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased, officials said.

“Sheriff’s Homicide Detail responded to conduct the investigation. Investigators determined that there was a dispute between Ashley Beauchamp,32, and Laura Morris, which ended with Beauchamp shooting Morris.  Minutes later, Beauchamp fled the scene,” officials said in a statement.

Victor Valley Deputy Moyer and K9 Ellie responded and tracked Ashley Beauchamp to a residence several blocks from the crime scene.  Beauchamp was detained and returned to the scene. Following an interview, Ashley Beauchamp was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for Murder, officials said.

In just two days, three people have died as a result of gun violence in the Victor Valley.
