VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The Victor Valley Union High School district continues to see its state test scores rise along with the college readiness of its students, according to data released by the state this week.
Since 2022, the percentage of VVUHSD students meeting or exceeding state standards has risen nearly 7 percentage points in English, 6.5 points in math and 6 points in science.
“Our students’ continued improvement on state tests is a credit to our outstanding teachers and those who support their work, including classified staff, counselors and administrators,” VVUHSD Superintendent Carl Coles said. “And most of all, it’s a testament to the hard work of our students and their families.”
The district’s percentage of students completing A-G coursework (which qualifies them for university acceptance) rose to 52.1 percent last school year. This is a 5-point rise from the previous year and more than 16 points higher than 2023. A-G is just one of many metrics in which VVUHSD is seeing growth, including increased attendance and decreased suspensions.

“As we reach a higher level and continue to see improvement in these areas, it becomes even more challenging to continue that upward trend,” Coles said. “But we are extremely confident in the ability of our district community to meet this challenge and to reach even greater milestones, as we know we have much more work to do.”
VVUHSD serves nearly 12,000 students in grades 7-12 at Adelanto, Silverado and Victor Valley high schools, Cobalt Institute of Math and Science, Goodwill Education Center (including Victor Valley Virtual Academy), Hook Junior High School, Lakeview Leadership Academy, Larrea Middle School, and University Preparatory School.
The district’s percentage of students meeting or exceeding state standards in English, Math and Science are the highest of all major school districts with high school-age students in the Victor Valley region, according to the California Department of Education’s official scores released Thursday. Coles said the climbing data is tied to several advancements VVUHSD has been making in recent years to support students and staff, including smaller class sizes, facilities improvements, increased collaboration with employee associations, and more. Among the latest additions are the new VVUHSD Police Department, providing enhanced safety for students and staff, and a Direct Admission agreement with Cal State San Bernardino to give local students an easier path to higher education.
“All of these advancements are in pursuit of one common goal,” Coles said, “to prepare our students to live a life of purpose with unlimited potential.”
