VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The Victor Valley Transit Authority (VVTA) announced its implementing new boarding policies and will suspend fare collection amidst the Covid-19 outbreak.
The company issued a statement and said the safety and well-being of both the riders and transit drivers are of the utmost importance to Victor Valley Transit. In the wake of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the organization is making the following steps.
“Effective immediately, Administration and non-essential staff will be working from their homes for the foreseeable future for their safety, as well as promoting social distancing guidelines. The work of VVTA will continue, with all staff working as one unit from their respective places of residence.
In response to concerns over COVID-19, VVTA has implemented enhanced cleaning in all transit vehicles. The enhanced cleaning includes high touch and traffic areas such as floors, seats, handrails, and belts.
Effective, Wednesday, March 18, 2020, Fixed Route passengers will be asked to enter and exit buses using the rear doors exclusively. Only wheelchair users and passengers with mobility limitations will be allowed access through the front doors.
A temporary barrier will be set up inside each bus to encourage social distancing.
Also, Victor Valley Transit will be suspending fare collection as both a precautionary measure to eliminate physical contact between riders and bus operators as well as easing the burden for passengers during this challenging time.
Finally, effective Monday, March 23, 2020, Victor Valley Transit will be operating on a Sunday Service Schedule (8 am – 6 pm) seven days a week, and their Inter City Bus, Route 15 which covers San Bernardino to the South to Barstow in the North, will move to a Saturday Schedule (7 am – 8 pm) Monday through Saturday.
Commuter bus service to Fort Irwin is still being analyzed and will continue its usual Monday through Friday schedule at this time.”
