Sam Cossman and George Kourounis with volcanic pioneers Geoff Mackely and Brad Ambrose become among the first explorers to step foot inside the worlds most dangerous and inaccessible volcano, Marum Crater. More people have visited the moon than the firey bottom of this spectacular and deadly location.
“You cannot physically get any closer to this lava without swimming in it,” Kourounis told CNN. “Parts of it actually splashed me and melted my jacket.”
The duo repelled down 1200 feet into the lava inside of an active Volcano located near Australia. The journey took the daredevils approximately 2-hours to complete.
“I call it the sound of Satan’s washing machine, just churning, bubbling, gurgling,” said Kourounis.
