Victorville’s New Councilwoman Sworn In

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG) The Victorville City Council’s meeting was greeted by a full chamber as supporters of the newest council member was sworn-in at the Dec. 6 meeting.
Newly-elected Victorville City Councilwoman Blanca Gomez sat with the audience Tuesday as the council meeting began, but after a brief swearing-in ceremony conducted by Angela Valles, she joined the other councilmen on the dias with a smile.
“Thank you for your vote of confidence at the polls to elect me as your council member, I’m going to work tirelessly on your behalf and in the best interest of the residents of Victorville,” Gomez said.
She thanked the council for their support and stated she looked forward to opportunities to work together to “enrich the lives” of the citizens.
Blanca Gomez, an educator at Cal State San Bernardino, has officially joined Mayor Gloria Garcia and Mayor Pro Tem Jim Cox as the November electeds onto a council that includes mid-term councilmen Jim Kennedy and Eric Negrete.
During public comments Scott Markovich said he thought Gomez was considered “quite the underdog” throughout her campaign, but that it was her basic grassroots and caring about people that earned her a seat.
“Our democracy sometimes allows people like Blanca to break “the glass ceilings”,” stated Markovich.
