Victorville to Install Multi-Way Stop at Bear Valley Road and Mesa View Drive on December 17
VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A new four-way stop will be installed at the intersection of Bear Valley Road and Mesa View Drive on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, following a unanimous vote by the Victorville City Council earlier this month.
According to a written statement from the City of Victorville, the installation will occur between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., with flagmen on-site to assist traffic. Temporary traffic control measures will be in place, and delays are expected. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, obey all posted signage, and follow instructions from traffic personnel.
The decision to install the multi-way stop came after the City Council unanimously adopted Resolution 25-082 on December 2, following a traffic engineering study presented by city staff.
In response to a question from a council member about how the traffic study was conducted and how long it took, City Engineer Freddy Bonilla explained that while traffic counts are typically conducted annually, staff collected fresh data specifically for this intersection to make an informed decision. After gathering updated counts, staff completed a warrant analysis which confirmed that a traffic signal was warranted. However, due to the time and cost involved in installing a signal, staff recommended a multi-way stop as an interim solution.
Bonilla also addressed the cost of a permanent signal. “We recently did an analysis, and it was close to $1,000,000,” he told the council. “So when you look at design, right-of-way acquisition, environmental studies, actual construction — it’s close to $1,000,000 at this point.”
He noted that installing a signal would require design work, environmental review, right-of-way efforts, and construction, a process that could take up to two years. The city plans to seek grant funding to help support the eventual installation.
Bonilla further explained that the evaluation relied on the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices’ nine warrants, as well as the circulation element designations—Bear Valley as a superarterial and Mesa View as a collector.
The council unanimously approved staff’s recommendation to establish stop control at the intersection.
