Victorville Police To Conduct Distracted Driving Enforcement Operation July 14

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The Victorville Police Department will conduct a special enforcement operation on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, targeting drivers who violate California’s hands-free cell phone law.
During the operation, officers will focus on motorists who are using handheld cell phones or other electronic communication devices while driving.
Under California law, drivers are prohibited from holding a phone or electronic communications device while operating a vehicle. The law applies to talking on the phone, texting, or using apps while driving. A handheld cell phone violation is punishable by a fine, and a second violation within 36 months of a prior conviction for the same offense will result in a point being added to the driver’s record.
“A driver’s focus should be on the road, not their phone,” Sergeant J. Snyder said. “That text, phone call, email or social media post is not worth the risk to yourself and other people on the road.”
The department encourages motorists who need to make an important phone call or program directions into a navigation device to pull over to a safe parking location before using their phone. Drivers are also encouraged to silence their phones or place them out of reach before beginning their trip.
Funding for the enforcement operation is provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to the written statement.
