Victorville Police Department Reports Results From August DUI Saturation And Distracted Driving Operations

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Two recent traffic enforcement operations conducted by the Victorville Police Department resulted in a combined four arrests and dozens of citations, according to written statements released by the department.

Victorville deputies conducted the two enforcement operations separately this month, with each targeting different driving violations.

Distracted Driving Enforcement Operation Results— August 11

The Victorville Station conducted a distracted driving enforcement operation Tuesday, August 11, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., focusing on drivers suspected of violating California’s hands-free cell phone law.

Deputies made 32 traffic stops and issued 26 citations during the four-hour operation. Of those, 14 citations were for cell phone violations and 12 were for other traffic violations.

Deputies also conducted two DUI investigations during the operation, resulting in two DUI arrests.

“The Victorville Station reminds motorists that safe driving requires their full attention. If you need to make a call, send a message, use an application, or otherwise interact with your phone, safely pull over and park before doing so,” the department said in its written statement released Thursday, August 13.

Funding for the operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

DUI Saturation Operation Results — August 7

Four days earlier, the Victorville Station conducted a separate DUI saturation operation from approximately 4 p.m. through 2 a.m.

That operation focused on identifying drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and taking appropriate enforcement action.

Deputies conducted 39 traffic stops and administered five field sobriety tests.

The operation resulted in one DUI arrest and one drug possession arrest. The drug possession arrest also resulted in a parole violation being issued, according to the department.

Deputies issued five citations to unlicensed drivers, 15 speeding citations and 22 citations for other traffic violations.

“The Department encourages anyone who has consumed alcohol or used a substance that may impair their ability to drive to arrange for a sober driver or use an alternate form of transportation,” the department said in its written statement.

Funding for the DUI saturation operation was also provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
