Victorville man killed in shooting at the Casa Bella Apartments identified

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office identified the man killed by gunfire at the Casa Bella Apartments in Victorville.

On Friday, November 1, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. deputies responded to calls of a shooting at the apartments in the 16980 block of Nisqualli Rd.

First responders along with deputies arrived on scene and located Thurman Dwayne Mathew, 40, a resident of Victorville unresponsive on the sidewalk. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Through investigation, detectives determined Thurman and 28-year-old Parnell Gutter were involved in an argument that later turned into a physical altercation.

According to a sheriff’s news release, “a short time after the fight, Mathew went to Gutter’s apartment and began shooting at the apartment, at which time Gutter returned fire and struck Mathew.”

Sheriff’s officials said the completed investigation will be submitted to the District Attorney’s office for review.
