Victorville man arrested for attemped murder after holding family members hostage

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Authorities arrested a 47-year-old man after he stabbed one family member and held other’s hostage inside a Victorville home Monday night.

It happened on February 4, 2019, when sheriff’s deputies responded to the 12600 block of Dulce Court reference a stabbing.

Deputies responded to the location and learned the suspect, Dexter Barker, of Victorville, used a knife to threaten his grandmother, two aunts, and uncle, inside the home they all shared.

One of the aunts was able to escape and ran to a neighbor’s home for help, officials said.

Deputies contacted the 58-year-old female victim and discovered she had suffered multiple injuries, including cuts to her face and hand, while attempting to escape. She was transported to a local hospital to be treated.

According to a sheriff’s news release, “the suspect was inside the home with the other family members and refused to come out and refused to release the hostages, two of which were disabled.

The Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division (SWAT) responded to assist and gave the suspect commands over a loudspeaker before making entry into the house and taking the suspect into custody.

None of the other victims were harmed in the stand-off.

Officials said Barker was transported to a nearby hospital for complaint of pain to his foot and was subsequently booked at West Valley Detention Center for attempted murder.

The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for review and consideration of additional charges.
