Victorville man, 36, facing elder abuse charges after his father was found severely malnourished

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A 36-year-old man facing elder abuse charges after his father was found severely malnourished pleaded not guilty in court today.

The suspect, Steven Schweiger, of Victorville, was arrested at his home in the 14900 block of Seneca Road on May 1, 2019.

According to sheriff’s spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez, deputies responded to the location after receiving a call from Adult Protective Services regarding the care and condition of the 85-year old, bedridden male victim.

“He was severely malnourished and in poor health and his home was unfit to be lived in,” stated Rodriguez.

Rodriguez said Schweiger is the victim’s son and his sole care-taker. He was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center and charged with PC368(B)(1) Causing Great Bodily Injury to an Elder.

His bail remains at $50,000 bail.

Schweiger appeared in a Victorville courtroom on Wednesday, May 8th where he plead not guilty. His next preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 15, 2019 at 8:30 am.
