VICTORVILLE-(VVNG.com): A 6-month-old baby girl died on Wednesday afternoon after what is believed to be abuse. On Saturday, July 25th at 7:34 p.m. deputies were dispatched to Desert Valley Hospital in Victorville to investigate suspected child abuse.
The hospital staff reported to deputies that Layla was unresponsive and without a pulse upon arrival, but doctors were able to perform CPR restoring her pulse. The infant was then put on a ventilator. It was learned through testing that Layla was suffering from a skull fracture, brain injury and bruising to her body. She was subsequently airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center for advanced care.
Due to the serious nature of the infant’s injuries, the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division was called and investigators from the Crimes Against Children and Homicide Details assumed the investigation.
Through the investigation an arrest was made of 19-year-old Tomall Thomas, Layla’s father. He was booked into the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto on the charge of Murder. He is currently being held without bail and is due in court Friday, July 31st for an arraignment hearing.
