VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — In a remarkable display of courage and quick thinking, Deputy Cesar Tejeda of the Victorville Sheriff’s Department prevented a potential tragedy on Sunday, February 5, 2023, when he responded to a shooting incident on Round Oak Way.
Upon arriving at the scene, Deputy Tejeda discovered a male victim with a gunshot wound to his neck, bleeding profusely and on the verge of losing consciousness. Without hesitation, Tejeda took immediate action by inserting his finger into the wound, effectively slowing the blood loss and stabilizing the victim.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, Tejeda swiftly requested a trauma kit and skillfully packed the gunshot wound with combat gauze. The deputy maintained steady pressure, effectively controlling the bleeding until fire and medical personnel arrived on the scene.
Deputy Tejeda continued to provide critical care to the victim alongside medical professionals until the wounded individual could be airlifted to a trauma center.
The victim underwent surgery, and despite suffering paralysis from the gunshot wound, he was successfully stabilized and later reunited with his family.
“Without Tejeda’s swift and courageous actions, the victim would have lost his life,” stated the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
