Victorville – The Home Depot has broken ground on a landscape beautification project at the Victorville City Library to be dedicated to the local Disabled American Veterans chapter. The project is to be named the Disabled American Veterans Healing Garden at the Victorville City Library.
The purpose of this project is to revitalize the area surrounding the Victorville City Library while creating an area that can be used by all veterans from the area to meet and reflect on their time in service. The new landscape will be made up of drought tolerant plants that will also serve as a demonstration garden, giving High Desert residents examples of drought tolerant garden plants for their own projects.
In addition to the drought tolerant plants, The Home Depot will incorporate four park benches with logos of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps painted on each back rest. Placed at the center of the Healing Garden will be a new 35’ flag pole as the focal point.
The Home Depot selected the Victorville City Library as the recipient of its annual project to honor local Military Veterans. All Home Depot stores in the HD region are contributing manpower to this project at the library. Participating stores include Home Depot store 665 on Bear Valley, Ridgecrest store 1089, Northwest Victorville store 1844, Apple Valley store 6834, Palmdale store 638, Lancaster store 6651 and Barstow store 6972. Home Depot is providing all materials, equipment, and labor to create the new Healing Garden. The project broke ground on October 28th, and will be completed in time for a dedication and unveiling ceremony to take place on Veterans Day, November 11, at 11:30 a.m. at the Victorville City Library. (The Healing Garden dedication and unveiling event will immediately follow the 19th Annual Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony taking place in downtown Victorville, at the corner of Forrest and 7th Streets)
