Victorville City hosting free outdoor water conservation workshop March 23

Victorville, Calif – The City of Victorville will host an Outdoor Water Conservation Workshop on Saturday, March 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Conference Room D at Victorville City Hall, located at 14343 Civic Dr.

This hands-on workshop is free and open to Victor Valley residents who are 18 and older.  Children from 12 to 17 years old may attend the workshop with a parent or guardian.  Registration is required and available online at or by calling (760) 955-2016.

The guest speaker will be Tony Walters from the Mojave Desert Resource Conservation District.

Workshop attendees will learn landscape design principals and water conservation strategies including the use of mulches and soil amendments, the causes and effects of soil erosion, and basic grading and drip irrigation design.

“Good planning is the first step in landscaping to reduce water use,” stated Donna McCormick, Water Conservation Supervisor for the City of Victorville.  “A low-water-use landscape is more than cactus and rock.  We will discuss seven simple landscaping principles that can yield measurable water savings for attendees.”

Mark and Nellie’s Nursery and Firewood, Imperial Sprinkler Supply, and Fireman Design and Landscape, have donated supplies for workshop demonstrations and raffle prizes.  Participants must be present to win.

Refreshments will be served and each attendee will receive a reusable canvas shopping bag filled with landscaping, recycling, and water conservation materials (while supplies last).

For additional water conservation resources, go to or call (866) 955-4426.
