VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A motorcyclist sporting a novelty plate reading “WILL RUN” was arrested Tuesday morning by the California Highway Patrol’s Victorville station following a brief but dangerous pursuit.
CHP officials said an officer attempted to stop the rider, who instead sped away. The pursuit was quickly ended, and the rider was taken into custody without incident.
“Speeding and dangerous riding and driving put yourself and everyone around you at risk, it’s just not worth it,” the agency said. “This rider found out the hard way and was arrested for evading.”
According to public booking logs, Derek Xavier Simmons, 22, a resident of Victorville, was arrested on August 12, 2025, at around 6:00 a.m. on suspicion of Vehicle Code 2800.2(a) – Evading a Peace Officer with Disregard for Safety in the area of Amethyst Road, just south of Rock Ledge Road.

He was released on bail later that evening at approximately 9:00 p.m. The motorcycle, which also featured a handlebar cover reading, “Drop A Gear And Disappear,” was impounded.
The Victorville incident comes just over a week after CHP – Modesto posted about a similar case on August 4, involving another “WILL RUN” plate.
In that incident, a Kawasaki rider led officers on a high-speed pursuit into neighboring counties before being arrested at his East Bay home.
The CHP – Victorville station noted the unusual coincidence, stating, “Someone must have been running a special on ‘Will Run’ plates after our friends at @chp_modesto had a similar incident last week.”
No injuries were reported in Tuesday’s pursuit.
