Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority Receives National Community Water Champion Award

VICTOR VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority (VVWRA) has been named a recipient of the National Community Water Champion award by the WateReuse Association.
The award was presented to VVWRA General Manager Darron Poulsen during a ceremony in Los Angeles, recognizing the agency’s work in water recycling, resource recovery, and environmental stewardship.
The WateReuse Association grants the national award to organizations demonstrating leadership in advancing water reuse programs and sustainable water management.
As the High Desert’s primary administrator and largest producer of recycled water, VVWRA oversees wastewater treatment and recycling operations serving communities across the Victor Valley. According to the agency, the recognition highlights efforts to expand wastewater reclamation programs and implement energy-efficient operations aimed at protecting regional water supplies.
“This honor from WateReuse reflects the dedication of our entire team to advancing sustainable water use,” Poulsen said. “By transforming a waste stream into a valuable resource, we are ensuring a more resilient and water-secure future for the High Desert and generations to come.”
The national recognition follows several recent honors awarded to VVWRA by the California Water Environment Association.
According to the agency, the Hesperia Water Reclamation Facility received the organization’s “Tertiary Plant of the Year” award, while Senior Operator Miguel Mendoza was named Operator of the Year. The authority’s Victorville facility also placed third in the Plant of the Year competition, and E & I Technician Jordan Rodriguez received third place in the Outstanding Young Professional category.
VVWRA officials say the agency continues to focus on infrastructure improvements and new technologies, including systems that convert biogas generated during treatment into renewable natural gas.
