Victor Valley under a severe dust storm alert causing life-threatening travel

Blowing dust may result in near-zero visibility at times.

VICTOR VALLEY, Calif. ( — The National Weather Service has issued a dust storm warning for San Bernardino County until 3:00 pm.

According to the warning, widespread areas of blowing dust were reducing visibility to a near-zero across the Victor Valley.

The strong winds will continue through mid-afternoon, 3:00 pm.

Dust storms will cause less than quarter-mile visibility with damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.

The NWS is advising trained weather spotters have reported dangerous life-threatening travel. Blowing dust could impact travel along I-15 between Hesperia and Barstow, in addition to Highway 247.

Locations impacted include: Victorville, Hesperia, Apple Valley, Lucerne Valley, 1-15 between Victorville and Barstow, Adelanto, Johnson Valley, Pinon Hills, El Mirage and Hwy 18 between Baldwin Lake and Lucerne Valley.

According to The Weather Channel, if driving and caught in a dust storm you are advised to pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot on the brake.

A high-wind warning will remain in effect until 7:00 pm this evening. Winds will be between 35-50 mph with gusts up to 75 mph in Apple Valley and Lucerne Valley.
