Victim Found During Apple Valley Homeless Outreach Leads to Arrest in Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault Case

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A homeless outreach operation in Apple Valley led investigators to a woman with visible injuries, ultimately resulting in the arrest of a 51-year-old transient on domestic violence, sexual assault, and ammunition possession charges.
The investigation began in April 2026 when the High Desert Multi-Disciplinary InnROADS Team was conducting homeless outreach along Apple Valley Road and Highway 18.
During the operation, team members located a female transient sleeping near a dumpster in an alley behind a local business. Authorities said she had visible injuries across her body that were consistent with a recent assault.
According to a written statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy M. Otey later learned the victim had been in a relationship for several months with Jeffery Daniels, a 51-year-old transient from Apple Valley.
According to the sheriff’s department, investigators determined Daniels physically and sexually assaulted the victim on multiple occasions during the relationship, causing injuries severe enough to require hospitalization.
Following a two-month investigation, Deputy Otey submitted the case to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors filed charges of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant under Penal Code 273.5(a) and forcible oral copulation under Penal Code 287(c)(2)(A). An arrest warrant for Daniels was issued on June 30, 2026.
At approximately 10:30 a.m. on July 2, 2026, Apple Valley Patrol Deputy Hinojosa contacted Daniels during a subject stop near Highway 18 and Olalee Road.
During a search of Daniels’ backpack, deputies located ammunition. Because Daniels is a convicted felon, he is prohibited from possessing ammunition under California law. He was additionally arrested for possession of ammunition by a prohibited person under Penal Code 30305(a)(1).
Daniels was arrested without incident and booked into the High Desert Detention Center on the outstanding warrant and the additional ammunition charge.
Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact Deputy M. Otey with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Community Service & Reentry Division at (909) 387-0623 or Sheriff’s Dispatch at (760) 956-5001.
