Vehicle Occupied by a Man and Child Shot at Early Saturday Morning

HESPERIA-(VVNG.com):  A Hesperia man was arrested for shooting at a vehicle occupied by a man and child early Saturday morning. At around 1:50 a.m. a male subject called to report the shooting after he was at a safe location with his child. He told authorities that the shooting occurred on the 16000 block of Orange Street in Hesperia.

Through investigation, deputies were able to determine that the male victim drove to the location of his ex-girlfriend with one of their children in his vehicle. When he arrived at the home, a male later identified as 26-year-old Thomas Anthony Martinez exited the residence and began firing shots at the vehicle.

Deputies learned that Martinez is currently dating the victim’s ex-girlfriend. Later in the morning, at around 8:42 a.m. deputies served a search warrant at the location of the shooting. Martinez was located as he attempted to escape out a window. Detectives and Gang Unit Deputies located a 9mm handgun, consistent with the gun believed to have been fired at the victim earlier that morning, counterfeit money, gang paraphernalia and stolen property.

After deputies obtained a second search warrant and served it to a home also on the 16000 block of Orange Street additional counterfeit money, stolen tools and a drug lab.

Martinez was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Attempted Murder and gang enhancement charges. Authorities said that additional charges may be submitted at a later date.

Hesperia Sheriff’s Station encourages witnesses to report suspicious activity. None of the neighbors reported shots fired after the victim and his daughter were shot at. Working together, we can keep our City safe.

The drug lab located at the suspect’s residence posed a risk to the safety of neighboring apartments. Suspects, where their residence is involved in the crime, will be subject to eviction based on the new Crime Free Rental Program Ordinance in Hesperia.
