Stolen vehicle found submerged in aqueduct in Phelan; sheriff’s dive team investigating

PHELAN, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Dive Team located a stolen Kia Soul found submerged in the California Aqueduct early Friday morning.

It happened at about 4:50 am, on Friday, August 24, 2018, near the intersection of Johnson Road and La Mesa Road in the town of Phelan.

“When officer’s arrived on scene the vehicle was submerged and the San Bernardino County Sheriffs dive team was requested,” stated CHP Officer Michael Mumford.

CHP officers at the scene photographed a portion of barbed wire fencing that had been cut and officials believe the vehicle went through.

Officer Mumford told Victor Valley News, “It does appear the fence the vehicle went through was cut open.”

The dive team will work on recovering the vehicle from the waters. The story is developing and additional information will be updated as it becomes available.
