HELENDALE:(VVNG.com)- The San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a vehicle vs semi traffic collision on Highway 395 near mile marker 35 at 11:10 p.m. on Friday, June 17.
For reasons still unknown a red sedan collided into the side of a tractor-trailer transporting a hazardous material. The vehicle, a red Toyota Corolla went under the trailer of the semi trapping the driver and passenger.
Firefighters requested a heavy rescue unit to assist with the extrication. It took firefighters about 45 minutes to extricate the occupants.
Both people extricated from the vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries and as a result, two medical helicopters were requested. Per scanner traffic, the patients were airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and Antelope Valley Hospital.
The tractor-trailer involved in the crash is owned by Kemira, a global chemicals company. Authorities confirmed there was no leak of the ferric chloride solution inside the container.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation. More information will be updated as it becomes available.
