VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) Christopher Barrios, a 35-year-old transient attempted to assault deputies as they attempted to take him into custody, officials said.
Deputies were called out to a residence in the 15300 block of Center Street ‘for a request to keep the peace’ on August 11th.
Police say Barrios became angry and argumentative with his wife as Deputy D. Carpenter attempted to talk with him.
“Due to the suspect’s erratic behavior, Deputy Carpenter attempted to detain him, for the safety of all parties. To avoid being detained, the suspect fled the location and a foot pursuit ensued,” sheriff’s officials said in a news release.
Barrios was eventually located hiding under a wooden container, however he refused to comply with commands to come out. In an attempt to gain compliance, deputies deployed pepper spray that was ineffective. Deputies had to remove one side of the wooden container to bring Barrios out.
Barrios attempted to punch and kick the arresting deputies as they detained him.
“One of the deputies sustained minor injuries to his hand, which did not require medical treatment,” officials said.
The suspect was found to be on felony probation for a previous conviction of resisting/obstructing an executive officer. He was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for resisting/obstructing an executive officer and for violating probation.
