Train Theft Suspects Evade Capture After Pursuit in Apple Valley; Stolen Cargo Recovered
APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Four suspects involved in a recent train theft managed to escape after leading deputies on a pursuit through the desert on Thursday afternoon, officials said.
The incident began on December 4, 2025, at about 12:53 p.m., when Apple Valley deputies observed a white box truck in the desert area near Dale Evans Parkway and Falchion Road, northwest of Bell Mountain.
According to a written statement from Gloria Orejel, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, as deputies approached, they saw four males running toward the vehicle. The suspects entered the truck and fled eastbound through the desert.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but the suspects did not yield, leading to a pursuit that lasted approximately 7.5 miles.
The chase ended when the box truck became stuck while attempting to drive over a mountain. The suspects then fled on foot and were not located, authorities said.
Inside the truck, deputies discovered stolen merchandise tied to a recent train cargo theft. The investigation is ongoing, and BNSF has assumed responsibility for the cargo theft case.
