The Mayor’s Weight Loss Challenge returns to Apple Valley

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. — With more than 350 challengers previously stepping up to the scales, the Mayor’s Weight Loss Challenge will return to Apple Valley for its third competition since the program began in 2015.

Under the umbrella of the Town’s Healthy Apple Valley Program, the Mayor’s Weight Loss Challenge was the first community-wide weight-loss challenge to come to Apple Valley.

“The Mayor’s Weight Loss Challenge has brought hundreds of Apple Valley residents their own success stories,” said Mayor Larry Cusack. “I myself lost over 50 pounds during the 2015 challenge. This year, I will personally donate $1,000 in prize money to the winning contestants. We invite sponsors and all gyms in Apple Valley to join us this year for the biggest challenge yet!”

A Facebook group will keep members on track for monthly weigh-ins, upcoming events, and healthy recipes to try. Among other scheduled activities, members are invited to try out lap swimming for free at the Town’s Aquatic Center, and several participants will have the chance to win monthly passes for lap swimming and water fitness classes.

“This has been a great way to keep Apple Valley’s residents on track and living a healthier lifestyle,” said Steve Orr Director of Business Development at Heritage Victor Valley Medical Group. “This year we are matching the mayor’s $1000 to the overall grand prize winnings. We hope to see more community partners join us in promoting this outstanding event.”

Participants can now register online at Onsite registration and first weigh-ins will take place at Town Hall on Jan. 9, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and again on Jan. 10, 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. The final weigh-ins for the challenge are scheduled for May 1. Results will be based on total percentage of weight loss.
