The Crossover aka Bypass Lanes are Returning

CAJON PASS-(VVNG.com): Just as commuters were celebrating the end of northbound Cajon Pass crossover lanes that ended on Friday, the southbound crossover lanes are due to begin on September 30th. Caltrans officials said that construction crews continue day and nighttime work for the southbound lanes and shoulder reconstruction. Night hours for work will begin as early as 6:00 p.m. and will end by 9:00 a.m.

This week workers will be concentrating on concrete removals, concrete paving and striping operations will continue throughout the week. According to Caltrans, the crossover lane will be installed about 1 ½ miles south of Ranchero Road to just south of Oak Hill Road. Commuters can expect these crossovers to be in place for about 6 weeks, during which time the southbound Oak Hill off-ramp will also be closed.

Commercial vehicles (trucks), vehicles pulling trailers are not allowed in the crossover lanes. Shoulders are only available on the mainlines so those that believe they may need to use the shoulder should remain on the mainlines. Those needing to access the Highway 138 or Cleghorn off ramps should not use the crossover lanes as there is only access from the mainline. Caltrans also would like to remind drivers that the 60 mile per hour speed limit will be strictly enforced.  The shoulder along the project limits is for emergency vehicles only and those blocking emergency vehicles may be cited.

Alternating lane closures will be in effect from Monday, September 28 through Friday, October 2nd from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m. for northbound I-15 lanes between Kenwood Avenue and Oak Hill Road. There will be no detour necessary as other northbound I-15 lanes will remain open to traffic.

For southbound I-15 lanes, alternating lane closures will be between Oak Hill Road and Kenwood Avenue. There will be no detour necessary as other southbound lanes will remain open. These alternating lane closures will be in effect from Monday, September 28th until Friday, October 2nd from 8:00 p.m. until 4:00 a.m. each night.

There will be an alternating ramp closure southbound 138 off and on ramps on Monday, September 28th through Friday, October 2nd from 8:00 p.m. until 4:00 a.m. For the off ramp closure take southbound I-15 to Cleghorn Road, turn left and merge onto northbound I-15.  The detour for the on ramp will be to continue northbound I-15 and exit Oak Hill Road, turn left and merge onto southbound I-15.

The southbound Oak Hill off ramp Wednesday, September 30th through Saturday, October 30th. From Oak Hill Road take the I-15 northbound and exit Ranchero Road, turn left and merge onto southbound I-15.

The brake check area will be closed, use stops at the Joshua Street exit. CalTrans Officials said that for minor accidents, drivers should pull off to the shoulder or ahead to a pull out area.
