CAJON PASS, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A Tesla Cybertruck went off-road and down an embankment early Sunday morning in the Cajon Pass, requiring a heavy-duty recovery operation and prompting a Sig Alert on northbound Interstate 15.
The solo vehicle crash was reported at about 3:15 a.m. on July 20, 2025. According to the California Highway Patrol incident log, the driver of the Cybertruck lost control and the vehicle left the roadway near the area known as the Switchbacks, north of Oak Hills Road.
The futuristic all-electric truck landed roughly 600 feet from the roadway, lodged in deep brush but visible about 50 feet from the freeway side. Initial access was limited, and CHP units determined the vehicle was “unrecoverable” until daylight due to terrain and distance.
At approximately 7:31 a.m., the incident was reopened, and a heavy-duty rotator from Armada Towing was requested to assist in retrieving the Cybertruck. To safely complete the operation, CHP closed the #1 lane of northbound I-15, just north of State Route 138.
At 9:17 a.m., a Sig Alert was officially issued for the lane closure, with no estimated time for reopening provided.
CHP logs indicate the Cybertruck’s left rear passenger door was ajar enough for an occupant to exit, though no official information has been released regarding injuries.
Motorists traveling through the Cajon Pass are experiencing traffic delays during the recovery effort, and drivers are urged to remain cautious as cleanup operations continue.
