Suspected Arsonist Arrested in Connection with San Bernardino County’s Line Fire

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (VVNG.com) — San Bernardino County officials have made a significant breakthrough in their investigation of the massive Line Fire, which has devastated nearly 33,000 acres and forced thousands from their homes.
Authorities have arrested Justin Wayne Halstenberg, a 34-year-old resident of Norco, on arson charges in connection with the inferno, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department – Highland Station.
The wildfire, which ignited on September 5, 2024, near Base Line Street and Alpin Street in Highland, has seen the mobilization of over 2,000 fire personnel and 15 helicopters.
Despite their efforts, the blaze was only 14% contained as of Tuesday evening. Fortunately, no structures have been lost, though the fire’s cause remained a mystery until investigators zeroed in on Halstenberg.
Highland Station detectives, working closely with Cal Fire investigators, linked Halstenberg to the origin of the Line Fire.
According to his LinkedIn profile, his employer was listed as FedEx in Rialto, previously worked for the U.S. Postal Service and graduated from Norco High School.
However, FedEx confirmed Halstenberg was no longer employed by the company.
“Our thoughts are with those affected by the devasting Line Fire. This individual is no longer providing service on behalf of FedEx, nor was he at the time of this fire,” stated Austin Kemker, the Communications Specialist for FedEx Media Relations, in a written statement.
Their relentless efforts led to his arrest on September 10, 2024. He is currently detained at the Central Detention Center, facing charges under P.C. 451 for arson, with bail set at $80,000.
Authorities are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with further information to contact Detective Jake Hernandez of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department – Highland Station at (909) 425-9793.
