Suspect Killed After Shooting at Deputies

APPLE VALLEY:(VVNG.com)- On Monday, February 2, 2015 at about 6:30 P.M., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officers responded to a report of a shots fired call on the 9000 block of Buena Vista Street in an area referred to as Juniper Flats.

Per scanner traffic, the suspect armed with a rifle began shooting at officers on the ground as well as a sheriff’s aviation unit.

During the stand-off, the suspect paced around the property and at one point shut off all the lights to the home.

Residents living in the immediate area were advised by officers to turn off the lights and stay low.

During an exchange of gunfire the suspect was taken down. Medical was requested for the suspect and a short time later was pronounced dead at 7:52 P.M. 

No injuries have been reported to any officers on the ground or in the air. At this time it’s unknown if the shooting was intended to be a suicide-by-cop.

Detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Detail responded to the location and are conducting the investigation. The identity of the suspect is not being released at this time pending identification and notification of next of kin.
