HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A stretch of Summit Valley Road near Highway 138 is closed following a crash that downed a power pole early Saturday.
At about 12:56 am, a driver hit a utility pole, which caused live power lines to fall into the road, leaving 172 Southern California Edison customers without electricity.
A CHP officer at the scene told Victor Valley News, the driver of a black Ford Mustang was reaching down to grab a drink that had spilled when the crash occurred.
The male driver sustained a minor head injury and was transported to a local hospital via personal vehicle, officials said.
Summit Valley Road is expected to remain closed for at least 5 hours as SCE crews work to replace the damaged poles.
According to the SCE outage map, power is expected to be restored by 10:00 am.
