CAJON PASS, Calif. (VVNG.com) Commuters rejoice! The Cajon pass is open and flowing smoothly in both directions for the Monday evening commute.
The California Highway Patrol and Caltrans have done an outstanding job at keeping the freeways open and safe.
“Our goal is to ensure the freeway remains open, and we will do everything we can do make sure of that,” said CHP Officer Melanie Weaver.
“Part of that is ultimately going to be dependent on how safe everybody is driving, when people start speeding and tailgating and not leaving themselves distance for stopping, then that increases the chances of a collision and the chances of closing the roadway,” Weaver said.
As of 3:40 P.M. both south and northbound of the I-15 Freeway remains open and free of snow, however, Caltrans is reporting that Highway 138 is closed in both directions on the Hesperia side (East of the 15 Freeway).
“You never know what you can expect in this type of weather, and it’s always a good idea to plan accordingly,” Weaver said, “I would like to remind anybody that’s traveling to the local mountains that they must have chains.”
She also said with weather patterns changing frequently in the mountains, as a safety precaution, they encourage people to travel with a two day supply of food, water, medication and appropriate clothing for cold weather.
