HINKLEY:(VVNG.com)- Police are conducting an investigation to positively identify skeletal human remains located in the desert over the weekend.
On Sunday, November 15, 2015, at approximately 4:23 p.m., a subject riding on a BLM Open Route approximately 9 miles northeast of Hinkley Road and Tobacco Road located what appeared to be skeletal human remains. Due to the time of day and rugged terrain a response and search was withheld until the following day.
On Monday, November 16, 2015, at approximately 10:15 a.m., deputies from the Barstow Sheriff’s Station located the skeletal human remains. Due to the unknown nature of the death, investigators from the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail were requested to conduct the investigation.
Investigators were able to determine the decedent was an adult male, and located a make shift camp and vehicle in the open desert about 500 yards from the decedents remains. Investigators did locate identification at the camp, but positive identification will be pending from the Sheriff’s Coroner Office. Based on items found in the camp it appears the decedent was living in the area since December of 2014. Evidence found at the scene indicates the decedent was attempting to climb a large lava formation and fell approximately 100 feet down. A majority of the skeletal remains were found in the area were the decedent came to rest.
Anyone with information related to the investigation or familiar with a subject living in that area is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail, Detective Mark Green (909) 387-3589.
