Single-Vehicle Crash at Railroad Crossing Closes Phelan Road on Christmas Day

PHELAN, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A section of Phelan Road was closed in both directions following a traffic accident involving a vehicle and a railroad crossing sign on Christmas Day.
The incident occurred at 3:07 PM on December 25, 2024, just east of Baldy Mesa Road.
According to reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the vehicle involved, a silver 2009 Ford Fusion, was observed driving recklessly prior to the collision.

San Bernardino County Fire responded to the scene and confirmed that one individual sustained minor injuries. The injured person was subsequently transported via ground ambulance to a local area hospital.
As a result of the accident, the train crossing arms at the location have been activated and are currently in a downward position, halting both train traffic and roadway traffic.

By 3:45 PM, a tow truck had arrived to remove the vehicle involved in the accident.
At 4:08 pm, CHP officers temporarily reopened the westbound lane in order to allow the stalled traffic to clear the roadway. At 4:12 pm, Officers alternated the closure to allow the stalled traffic on the eastbound lanes to safely drive across.
A hard road closure has been requested for westbound lane leading up to the rail road tracks.

Union Pacific Rail Road representatives have been requested to the scene, an ETA was not available.
The California Highway Patrol is currently conducting an investigation and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
