HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Silverwood Lake will be closed to all boats, watercraft and fishing on Tuesday, July 14, from park opening until approximately 2 p.m. as the California Department of Water Resources conducts a copper sulfate water treatment to address an algal bloom affecting the lake.
According to a written statement from park officials, the temporary closure is necessary while the treatment is applied to help manage the bloom, which has produced compounds known to cause taste and odor concerns for downstream water treatment plants.
Officials said the treatment is intended to address the current algal bloom while helping reduce the risk of future blooms that have disrupted recreational activities at the lake.
Visitors are advised that all boating, watercraft use and fishing will be prohibited during the treatment period. The lake is expected to reopen to those activities at approximately 2 p.m., although the reopening time is subject to change.
The scheduled treatment follows an ongoing harmful algal bloom that has already impacted recreation at Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area.
On July 3, park officials announced that a Danger Advisory had been issued after water testing confirmed a harmful algal bloom affecting both beaches. According to a written statement, Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area was closed to swimming and all water contact activities due to the advisory.
Park officials apologized for the temporary inconvenience and encouraged visitors to follow official park channels for additional updates.
