Silverwood in Hesperia Named Masterplan Community of the Year; John Ohanian Honored as Industry Leader

HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) – Silverwood, a 9,366-acre master-planned community in the Mojave River Valley, was named Masterplan Community of the Year at the 2025 SoCal MAME Awards, while General Manager John Ohanian received the Industry Leader of the Year award.

The honors were presented during the 2025 MAME Gala by the Greater Sales & Marketing Council and the Building Industry Association of Southern California. The SoCal MAME Awards featured nearly 300 entries highlighting innovation, creativity and excellence across Southern California’s homebuilding industry.

“It is an incredible honor to have Silverwood recognized by the building community in southern California,” said Ohanian. “Bringing Silverwood to life has been the culminating project of my career, and now that we have residents moved in and living out the kindness culture on a daily basis, it is gratifying to see our intentions in action. I appreciate these awards, our talented team’s efforts, and everyone who has helped make the vision for Silverwood a reality.”

Developed by DMB Development, Silverwood was envisioned as more than a collection of homes. The community was built around what developers describe as a culture of kindness, encouraging neighborly support and collaboration among residents.

Homebuyers receive a kindness pledge when signing their association documents, aimed at fostering a welcoming and supportive environment. Local schools, law enforcement, fire services, parks and recreation, city departments and members of the local faith community have also joined the initiative.

Silverwood offers homes for first-time and move-up buyers, with prices starting in the $400,000s. The community features 25 home plans designed to create distinct streetscapes. Floor plans include options such as RV and toy parking, rear-yard casitas, multigenerational layouts, front porches and bold exterior paint schemes.

Designed to reflect a small-town California feel, the development emphasizes walkability and access to outdoor amenities. Plans include 59 miles of off-street trails, 107 miles of paths and paseos, and 387 acres of parks.

As the project expands over the coming years, it is entitled for more than 15,000 homes, 700,000 square feet of retail and commercial space, and 4,900 acres of open space. The development is expected to invest more than $1.6 billion over 25 years to enhance regional infrastructure and services.

The community has already welcomed its first fire station, with public schools, town squares and additional commercial space planned.
