VICTORVILLE:(VVNG.com)- The Silverado High School Hawk STEM Team is sponsoring a free electronics recycling event on Saturday, October 11, 2014, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on the Silverado High School campus. On that day, the public and any businesses may bring LCD monitors, flat panel TVs, CRT (tube) TVs, computers, servers, cell phones, laptops, tablets, iPads, iPods and MP3 players, cords, wires, switches, routers, modems, hubs, video games and consoles, fax machines, scanners, DVD/VCR players, used toner cartridges, printers, telephones, CD players, microwaves, radios, walkmans, headphones, and computer peripherals to the drop off area in front of the school. Businesses with twenty or more of these qualified items can arrange for a FREE Pick Up prior to the October 11 event.
All the funds from this E-waste campaign will go directly to the school’s Low-Carbon Recycle Garden Project, the first of its kind on any public school campus in the city of Victorville.
The Silverado High School Low-Carbon Recycle Garden Project will construct a sustainable carbon sink on the S.H.S. campus, created with drought-resistant plants and trees, and eco-friendly planters, benches, and sculptures made from recycled materials and produced through low CO2 emission processes. This tranquility garden/recycle park will be used to promote environmental awareness on campus, and to provide opportunities for additional school ecology projects such as organic composting, an organic herb garden, etc. The S.H.S. Low-Carbon Recycle Garden Project is dedicated to reducing Silverado High School’s carbon footprint, bringing our students and staff back to nature, and promoting environmental awareness throughout our Victorville community.
The Silverado High School Hawk STEM Team’s goal is to raise $1,000.00 with the Oct. 11 E-waste Event to get this major ecology project underway.
