Sig Alert Issued Due to Brush Fire in Cajon Pass

CAJON PASS-(VVNG.com):  At approximately 4:40 P.M., on Friday, April 3rd San Bernardino County Fire Department was dispatched to a fire on the right hand side of the I-15 freeway northbound just south of Oak Hill Rd. The vehicle fire sparked three separate fires in the brush area beside the freeway.

Per CHP logs, three vehicles pulled to the right hand side of the freeway and one male party jumped down the embankment toward the fire fanning the fire with his hands. The fire which was spread from the pavement into the vast brush area was reported to initially cause little or no visibility issues for drivers. Within minutes reporting party advised dispatch that the smoke began crossing the freeway and according to the San Bernardino National Forest, the vegetation fire was approximately ¼ acre in size upon arrival.

A sigalert was issued closing the truck lanes, leaving only lanes 1, 2, and 3 open to traffic. At this time, the duration of the closure is unknown.

At this time the cause of the fire is unknown. Information will be updated as it is received.
